A determined young Regency lady...three eligible suitors...one true love.

"Choosing Will" is a sweet, traditional Regency romance novel.

Marisa Landon falls in love with her best friend's brother, Will, the day she turns fourteen. Four years later, she agrees to a whirlwind London Season because it seems to be the only way to prove to him that their lifelong friendship can turn into something more.

First, though, she must deal with her step-father’s attempt to engage her to an eccentric viscount and the unexpected attentions of Will’s best friend, a charming young earl who can offer her wealth and status.

What will Marisa choose to do if Will won't offer for her?

Choosing Will is a compilation of the previously released short story prequel, Marisa Becoming Fourteen, and the full-length novel, Marisa's Choice.

”This story is good for newcomers to the genre and young adult readers.”

“McDonald's distinctive characters truly shine through....”

“…there is a plethora of historical detail and a nice bit of action at the end.”

I read Marisa Becoming Fourteen some time ago. I was excited to read what happened when Will returns from the war. Marisa has now reached her coming out and all she still thinks about is Will Wycliffe. Four years have passed and she has held the letters he has sent dear to her heart. When I read the first book I stated that Lyvia was her stepsister I was mistaken. They are in fact friends but as close as sisters. I hate it when that inaccuracy occurs on my behalf but I have since corrected.

I was really looking forward to watching Will come back and see how young Marisa had grown since last they said their goodbyes. The problem was it was not a grand reunion you witness but one that has already taken place and to boot young Will does not take much of a notice at all but continues to carry on with other young ladies. It is not shown to us but implied that he is sowing his oats. I hated that over used line because it takes the steam out of a believable passion if the H is that clueless IMO.

Marisa has no interest in going to London for a season or to meet the man her stepfather wishes her to meet while there. She is told her infatuation with Will is not returned and childish. Then things take a different turn when her mother has an accident and Marisa travels to London with the Wycliffe's. While she has a plan in place to make Will jealous everyone else believes her to be growing up and accepting her lot in life. She shares her feelings about Will with no one not even Lyvia.

Believe me there is plenty I have left out. The time period takes place with the London season and I really wanted to see them as a couple but the story is about the couple finding each other. It is filled with angst and moments where Will, trying to do what he thinks is right, encourages Marisa to choose another. He is further seen with a lady of the ton and I hated to go on but I continued. Will's thoughts are a mystery through parts and it puts up separation from the romance when he's described as going out and not returning until 2am. To me it is unclear whether he was sleeping around as the book is written to be appropriate for YA. It is not said and once he gets his head straight then we watch Marisa rebel against what she has fought for the whole book.

Now while I have complained about what I did not like I think I should point out that it is a tradition Regency and clean. There are only a couple places where the wording was phrased strangely but the first kiss Will and Marisa share was very romantic. My main problem was not in the authors writing as much as what my expectations were for the romance. I do not enjoy watching the H carouse around once he meets the h. The two have known each other their whole lives so it does make it a bit different but I like to think that once the H/h sees the other in a different light they are incapable of acting in such a way. The other issue for some may be that after the two become engaged it is implied the couple danced every dance together. To be accurate that would be inappropriate for the times.

There are also other romances that take place during the story and her cover once again is elegant. I think that there are others who may enjoy the authors writing but for me this book was just not taken in the direction I wanted to see. Enjoy!!

Choosing Will edition by Kadee McDonald Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

***I received a promotional copy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review. This review reflects my honest opinion.***

In a way, I enjoyed the short story, "Marisa Becoming Fourteen", more than I enjoyed the book. I think that's because the short story did a good job of developing Marisa's character and took me back to when I was a teenager! It also left me wanting more.

The book was too much "more". I wanted less detail in developing the storyline. I also wondered why the main character Marisa loved Will. His character was not well developed and his behavior was confusing, even for a young man both in love and jealous.

The mystery surrounding a fairly major character, Lord Rockwell, added to the interest of the book, even though the results were predictable. Lord Rockwell's character was more developed than Wiil's and I was sympathetic to him and wanted his situation to resolved favorably.

I think one of the reasons I read regency romance is for the happy endings. In that, this book did not disappoint. The book was also a very nice traditional regency, a clean read with the happy ever after.

I would definitely read another book by this author. I think she shows a lot of promise. I believe her writing will improve with practice. She certainly shows a good imagination and a good sense of life in regency England. I also applaud her for seeking reviews of her work.
Kaydee McDonald tells the story of a childhood friendship that turns into much, much more. While her young heroine, Marisa, has long been aware of her romantic feelings for her best friend's brother, Will has always thought of her just as an older brother ought to feel. When Marisa travels to London for her first season, these uneven feelings become painful, particularly for Will as he begins to experience jealousy and a confusing attraction to Marisa. Ms. McDonald's sensitivity to the emotional difficulties of a developing friendship-to-love relationship, her knowledge of the period and attention to the historical accuracy required by readers of this genre, and the way she weaves a sweet romance together make for a lovely traditional regency read.
Marisa Landon is 18 and in love with Will, the boy next door, but as an upper-class lass in 1816, she must do a Season in London as a debutante and make the most advantageous match possible, since her whole future depends upon it. Her step-father already has her husband picked out, who is NOT the afore-mentioned boy next store, and Marisa's best friend, Lyvia (Will's sister), who is also heading to London for her first Season, knows nothing of Marisa's romantic yearnings and eagerly anticipates the romantic adventures they'll have. How can a young girl cope?!
With grace, humor and humanity! Marisa, and indeed almost all the characters (except for the most heinous, and there are only a couple) in "Marisa's Choice" are painted with the most loving of brushes. Author Kadee McDonald does a superb job of conveying the pain, joy and confusion of first love along with the perennial teen angst of wanting to satisfy beloved parents while also following one's heart.
Besides the wonderful characters and situations, there is a plethora of historical detail and a nice bit of action at the end. So fire up the kindle, throw on your coziest jammies, curl up on the couch and enjoy!
