I've read or listened to all of the Butterworth Mysteries. They are novella-length stories about two retired & widowed sisters-in-law who have started a home-based private detection business. The ladies are excellent and tenacious investigators.I actually like the shorter length of these stories. Each is a fast, light read. There is some humor, however, most of the story is focused on their efforts to gather and puzzle out the evidence. These are community-based stories. The ladies aren't gallivanting the world.
I enjoy that the ladies are both comfortable in retirement and have close family, but are yearning to put their considerable talents to work. For them, it's less about what they earn and much more about the satisfaction of completing a case.

A Tragic Tune Butterworth Mystery Book 6 edition by Gillian Larkin Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I really enjoyed this book. The Ladies stated out investigating and insurance claim for and old time rocker, and ended up dealing with a murder. What ten million dollars will make a person do. Now I have go and read the first five Butterworth Mystery Books. A quick and enjoyable read.
A Tragic Tune (Butterworth Mystery Book 6) by Gillian Larkin is another story of the elderly do-it-yourself PIs solving a case. These books are fun because they are clean, have humor, a great mystery, include old women as the main characters that are little spit fires, and you never know what they will get into. This one is no different. I love these great stories!
I like cozy mysteries, and this series is very close to that genre. The stories are fast-paced and easy to follow. They are long enough to count as a proper book but short enough to be read in a day. Even though this is the sixth book in the series, they all stand alone. You can read them in any order. Highly recommended!
I loved this latest story of private investigators Connie and Sable. These two retired sisters-in-law can be a hoot at times and very insightful at other times when necessary.
The characters are believable and entertaining. The ending was a great surprise to find out who the killer was but these ladies figured it out.
If you're looking for entertainment with a mystery thrown in, you can't lose with one of the Butterworth mystery books.
In this story, Sable gets to meet one of her idols. This story just shows you that you might be old in years, but you can still be young at heart. Sable acts like a giddy teen when she is around her idol. But things are really not as they seem. The husband is a real jerk and no one likes him. There is more than one suspect in this case when "Mr Nasty" ends up dead. Could it be the assistant, the stalker, or one of the thousands of fans? You will have to read it to find out.
The Butterworth mysteries are my favorites. Each one is better than the last. Connie and Sable are retired sisters-in-law who decided to form a detective agency. The charachters are so human. They argue a lot, but always support each other. They were hired in this story by an insurance company to investigate a claim for an injury to a retired rock star who had been Sable's idol. Once again Connie and Sable solved the mystery with an ending that really surprised me. Cosy mystery readers can't go wrong with this one.
I find myself continually being astonished by Gillian Larkin and her ability to write cogent and clever cosy detective stories. One after the other.
I love these Butterworth stories and grab each and every one as they become available.
A Tragic Tune is about the tragic injury that happened to Juniper Vale, a rock icon of years past. For once the star struck Sable is very keen to take the commission from an insurance company to investigate the circumstances in which Juniper's hands got injured as this resulted in a claim for £10 million pounds.
These two Butterworth sisters sparkle with wit and their easy bickering with each other. They feel much more like family by now. Enjoy!
