Well researched. It shows the difference between now and then. This is real history. Very interesting. Locations where the events have taken place are still in existence. Keeps you wondering. Recommend reading it.
This book was based on true events that took place in the area where I live. I was hooked from the moment I picked it up. If you like crime novels, and/or historical fiction, you will love it.
Fascinating story! This page-turning narrative makes you feel as if you are there with Matt and George every step of the way. Such a gem of a story, and well-written in the context of the history and the times seamlessly woven into an enthralling and gripping tale. If you like historical fiction and adventure, be sure to check it out!
I actually read this twice. The first read was off and on while I was travelling and in between trips. I enjoyed it, but had a bit of difficulty keeping track of all of the characters (would have loved to have everyone on a family tree for reference ) So I re-read the book (while more stationary) and found it to be enthralling. The great historic detail spoke well of the research conducted. A terrific book!
I just finished this book and found it to be a well written and compelling narrative about the fascinating lives of two brothers in Oklahoma during the 1920's and 30's. Based on well researched historical facts, we are introduced to their families, their struggles during that time period, and how they persevered and never lost faith through it all. I fell in love with the characters here, and found it so interesting that we have never, to my knowledge, been aware of their stories before. It's a fun read and I could even see potential for this to be developed into a movie format in the future!
The book not only enlightens us about these outlaw brothers but gives us a view of the depression era, prohibition, and the wave of bank robbers who were not tamed until J. Edgar Hoover and the "Untouchables" came onto the scene. I took my time reading the book and I really enjoyed it.
I just finished Earthstains and WOW what a story! It’s shocking how poor choices by essentially good people can devastate an entire family. Throw in a little bad luck and you have a formula for disaster that would ruin most families. Most of us have “dodged a bullet” from bad choices we made in the past, but in the case of some members of the Kimes family, they didn’t learn much from their mistakes. Then pile on more poor judgement and you have consequences that last a lifetime. This is a great read, don’t miss it.
